Non-Binary Health
‘Nature held me close and seemed to find no fault with me.’

Inclusivity
Herbalism knows no borders, boundaries, binaries.
In my practice I use the language my patients are comfortable with.
Come as you are and we will walk the path of herbalism together.
This means for some I use words like ‘women’ and ‘men’ in language that is binary, for others I do not. I am learning the depths and complexities of language every day. For many of my patients and students, binary is relatable.
When I describe women, I am referring to women in so many states of being and identities. Same for men. Same for non-binary and queergender folk.
Wild Apothecary is rooted in and grows from inclusivity and I am ever learning how to use language, how to understand different life experiences, privileges, intersectionality, diversity and what holism truly is.
Health and wellbeing are not individual cases or personal stories alone, health and wellbeing are society wide and symptomatic of systemic oppression. Where there is poverty, colonialism, environmental trashing, exploitation, prejudice and so many -isms, suffering is present.
‘It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society’ Krishnamurti
Patients come with all kinds of conditions, challenges which can affect anyone. Healthcare systems, however, do not support everyone in the same way. It is well documented that, for example, the majority of trans folk are medically underserved. In terms of my own provision in my clinic, all are welcome and we will endeavour to maintain the same standards for all. I am aware of my own binary understanding and privilege and seek to deconstruct and gather together again as I work to be as inclusive as possible. I am also aware of the way herbalism is largely presented - as reductionist or symptomatic healing for physiological issues in bodies that are usually white, gender-typical and framed in a Western context. There is also a lot more literature, many more talks and workshops, more resources in binary healthcare but we will find as much as we can and work in community.
Wild Apothecary offers support for anyone including those undergoing gender transitioning, or for those who have transitioned. This may be through hormonal care, emotional support, physiological herbalism, plant connection. If you are unsure, give me a call and we can talk through what your needs are.
