This was the first page of the article I wrote for The Green Parent magazine entitled ‘Wild Medicines for Wild Kids’. It is the basis of many of the courses I do that focus on children and their health – in every day well being and in times of acute or chronic illness.
There are so many medicines on our doorstep, or just down the road in a field, wood or bit of green. We can use these medicines safely and effectively if we just know how. In modern times we are not so enamoured with weed medicines, favouring pills and injections to cure all but as medicines fail and GPs are stumped by symptoms that have no clear explanation, plant medicines really can help.
There is a natural resurgence of herbal medicine due the lessening faith in (eg.) antibiotics or strong drugs with strong side effects. Instead of going to your local chemist and finding a pill form of a herb, try finding the real thing! Find a local herbalist doing herb walks, or introductions to herbal medicine and learn the basics! Treasure in your garden, gems in your local wood – this is how I see the plant world… hope you will too!
